Last year I was contacted by the marketing director of the American Alpine Club who had "quasi-randomly" come across my website. He asked if I would be interested in donating some artwork for their 2015 Guidebook to Membership. As an avid climber and member of the AAC, of course I was happy to contribute to such a fantastic organization. I met with the publication team in December and they expressed interest in a page from my sketchbook. The result? My first time being featured in a nationally distributed publication!!
I was fresh from my first trip to Indian Creek. The gobis were still healing on the backs of my hands. But the spark was ignited. I found the desert to be a foreign, yet magical, place. And hand-jamming to be just as foreign. The drawing reflects how hard I felt like I had to think about jamming into cracks. It did not come natural to me... But I have recently been back to the Creek and throwing in that first jam felt like a familiar hug with a good friend. Can't wait for that friendship grow even more.
